WEEE compliance, handled properly
Disposing of old IT equipment isn’t optional admin, it’s a legal obligation. We make sure you meet it.
Non-compliance is a criminal offence
Businesses that fail to dispose of electrical equipment correctly risk unlimited fines and prosecution.
WEEE, for IT and office equipment
WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) covers any discarded item with a plug, a battery, or an electric current, but our specialism is IT: laptops, desktops, servers, monitors, networking equipment, and phones. We can take general electrical items too, but IT and office equipment is where we specialise.
What compliant disposal actually requires
- Collection by a licensed waste carrier, and treatment at a facility holding a genuine Environment Agency authorisation, not just anyone with a van
- A Waste Transfer Note (or Hazardous Waste Consignment Note) for every collection, as legal proof of transfer
- Records kept for at least 2 years, so compliance can be evidenced if queried
A fully licensed ATF, for over 20 years
R3 has held our Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) status for more than two decades. Our site holds itself to strict Environment Agency standards, and that’s something we’re proud of.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2006 place responsibilities on users, producers and distributors of electrical and electronic equipment.
If you use electrical and electronic equipment you must store, collect, treat, recycle and dispose of WEEE separately from your other waste for a variety of reasons.
You must also obtain and keep proof that your WEEE was given to a registered, official waste management company and was treated and disposed of in an environmentally sound way.
There are potentially serious consequences for you if you do not comply including fines, bans on your products and even imprisonment.
Not all IT disposal and recycling companies are legally permitted to manage your electronic waste. Please see our section on IT disposal companies – What I need to know for guidance on what a disposal company should be able to provide you to ensure your compliance.
